What is Linspire? (hint: the old name was LindowsOS)
Linspire is a new, modern operating system that you can use to run
your computer instead of Microsoft Windows. Linspire is based on the Linux operating system. Linspire will run on IBM Compatible PC's (sorry, it doesn't work on Apple Macs).
Instead of spending $200 on Microsoft Windows and hundreds or thousands of dollars more for software -- you can run Linspire on your computer instead! For $89 you can buy the Linspire Operating System and a membership to the CNR (click and run) warehouse.
The CNR (click and run) warehouse is a new way to install software. It is a program that is availabe on Linspire.
To use it you click the icon to open the CNR warehouse. Then, you graphically browse the categories of software that you like. When you find something that you want to install -- you simply click the icon.
The program will download to your computer and install automatically. When it is done, you can run the program immediately and add an icon to your desktop. You don't even have to reboot your computer!
Linspire is a very stable operating system that doesn't require you to reboot your computer constantly. You won't experience things like lock-ups, crashes, "Blue Screens of Death", or other problems like you experience while using Microsoft Windows.
You won't have to worry about "spyware" or "adware" when you are browsing the Web. The web browser built into Linspire is immune from these nasty programs. You won't have to worry about viruses infecting your email or taking over your computer.
Those programs were written to run under (and exploit) security vulnerabilities that are common in Microsoft Windows. Since Linspire is not Microsoft Windows -- you are immune from these threats. They won't even run on Linspire!
What about software? There's a huge variety of programs available for Linspire! There are word processors that are compatible with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint! You can create and open these files with powerful programs like "OpenOffice" and "StarOffice" with Linspire.
There are also games, MP3 players and rippers, CD burning software, DVD players, and much more! There are Linux alternatives to just about EVERY program that you need on your Microsoft Windows computer.
